Ditch That Huge SUV! Blah. Blah. Blah.
For your consideration: Ditch That Huge SUV! Blah. Blah. Blah.
The Money Kings HAVE to do a post on this. And you all know why . . .
Gas prices are crazy. Most people think everyone feels this way, but in fact, there are plenty of people that seem to feel that gas prices are fair.
To articulate, however, just how crazy things are with gas prices, let's reflect.
Thanks to the memory hole that is HUMANITY, gas prices are so crazy that news outlets give gas price updates every 10 minutes. Do you remember them doing this back in 1999? We also have announcers saying things like:
Gas Guzzlin' - The Chaser's War on Everything
"And now it's time for a Gas price update sponsored by Shell. Gas is $2.99 at the Texaco on Route X and Y. That's pretty cheap."
What??!!!!!
We all should remember when gas was $1.23 per gallon. Some of The Money Kings even remember $.79 per gallon. These prices represent "cheap"--relatively speaking. Not this BS we're hearing on the radio.
So again,
Don't Listen To The Damn Major Media Outlets.
Anyway, one of our crew was at a local gas station. His name is Sopclod. Here's how he said it all went down:
I had an incident this morning The Money Kings will appreciate. At the Jewel gas station you get free coffee with a purchase of 8 gallons or more, so I always try to fill up there [A VERY Money King-ish choice.]. The guy in line in front of me couldn't remember his pump number, so he pointed to his car, which was a Chevy Tahoe. The cashier rang him up: $83!! Holy sh*t! He earned his free coffee! So I go next, and the attendant says, "You get free coffee too." I'm like: "It takes a little less to fill up my car [He drives a Hyundai coupe]. We both laughed. That's freakin' awesome.
After reading this little tale, we realized that we needed to give every one the big Money Kings tip to ditch their big SUV because of gas prices, BUT we realized too that many people that don't have big SUVs don't really know what it costs to fill one of these things with gas.
Consider Sopclod's story a wake up call NOT to even consider purchasing one of these vehicles unless you need one for business purposes, or you feel like spending $83 to fill up your tank.
While we're on the subject of gasoline, here are three more money saving tips to consider no matter what car you drive:
- Keep your engine clean. When you see a truck filling up the tanks at a gas station, drive on to a different service station. The truck will fill the tanks and stir up the gas in the ground. Any silt and dirt in the underground tank that has settled to the bottom of the tank will swish around and probably go up into the pump, and into your car!
- If you manual doesn't call for it, then don't put premium gas into your car except for once per year. The premium gas is better for your car! But using it once per year as a cleaner for your engine is the only recommendation we can give as there is no evidence that your car will run any better once it's gone through its initial tank of premium gas. This also means that instead of buying fuel additives and over-the-counter cleaners, premium will do the trick.
- Get to the station earlier. The Earth is cooler before the sun hits it. Filling your tank earlier in the morning will literally give you a little more product for your money. Why? Because gasoline expands in warmer temperatures!
Good luck out there.

Remembering cheap gas prices
Hey, I remember when I first started driving in the mid 70's, gas was .50 a gallon. Yep, that wasn't a typo. I remember being so upset because a couple weeks later, gas went up big time to .75 per gallon.
What we hate are the "cheap"
comments in reference to gas prices nowadays.
It's sinful how easily and quickly people forget important details.
So, in 18 months, gas goes from 1.50 to 1.80 then 2.20 then 2.99 then 3.33 and people think that 2.00 is cheap!
Seriously, why are humans so fickle.
This scenario is a prime reason why freedom of the press is so important. Under that system of law, you can rely on media outlets (like The Money Kings) to give you a little history lesson every now and then.
But when media outlets themselves talk on how 2.99 gas is cheap, they're failing all of us.
Try the UK!
Since Christmas most places are selling at £1.05 a litre which works out to $7.95 per US gallon, Still seems to me you're getting cheap gas!!
come on! the UK. like your
come on! the UK. like your country is anywhere near as big as the US.
I remember gas at .98 and I
I remember gas at .98 and I am pretty young (23). Gas has doubled since going to Iraq so much for cheap oil and using that oil to fix their country.
