Don’t Be A Snob.
For your consideration: Don’t Be A Snob!
Well, this probably goes without saying for a lot of you, but bear with us.
Why MoneyKing?
Because we’re going to address a pretty mundane subject here: garage sales. Lots, and lots, and lots of people go to garage sales. Then again . . . Lots and lots and lots of people who should don’t!
One reason why they don’t is because they’re snobs. Now, if you’re sitting there thinking to yourself, “I’m not a snob!” ask yourself these questions:
- Have you ever told someone you don’t want to go to a garage sale, because you don’t want to use something that someone else has used?
- Have you ever laughed at people solely because they were at a garage sale?
- Have you ever ridiculed, with your friends, people that go to garage sales?
If your answer to these questions is “Yes,” then you’re a snob. There’s really nothing else to say about that.
Dig this, though; some people can AFFORD to be snobs! That’s the great part about being well-off. When you’ve got money, you play by different rules. Just ask any number of infamous celebrities that have committed crimes and now walk the streets while their “ordinary” peers do time. We’ve all see this . . .
If you’re making a household income of $50k per year, or even $100k per year, however, you CANNOT afford to be a snob. If you’re maxing out your income, a place like a garage sale could really do wonders for your retirement (that you’re probably not funding like most Americans) or your savings.
Why buy a hammer at Lowes for $10. You can get one at any garage sale for about $1. The Lowes hammer has never been used. The garage sale hammer has been used once per year by a person that is now 80 years old and CAN’T use it anymore. It’s a cycle.
This is just one of a million scenarios out there where you can buy perfectly good items at next-to-nothing prices, if only you’d get over yourself.
Good luck out there.

I saw a half-used tube of
I saw a half-used tube of hemorrhoid creme at a garage sale once. I wouldn't recommend buying that. If you have kids though, you can save a friggin FORTUNE by going to garage sales for your kids clothes that they will probably wear ONCE, and have probably only been worn ONCE.
I agree 100%. I grew up
I agree 100%. I grew up being embarrassed that my family shopped at garage sales. I never told anyone where my clothes came from until I was in college, when I realized that I was really proud of my frugal ways. Turns out, just about everyone I know now shops at garage sales. Who knew?! :)
