A Lockable Gas Cap!
Ta-da!!!
That’s it folks. There really is no reason for debate here. A long time ago MoneyKing’s dad encouraged him to get a lockable gas cap for his car. The issue here was security in the sense that MoneyKing’s dad was paranoid that MoneyKing’s car would wind up with glass, or rocks or some sort of small mouse wedged in the fuel line by some a$$hole looking to screw up someone’s life on a Friday night!
Little did MoneyKing’s dad realize that unleaded gasoline would be skyrocketing over $4 per gallon, thus causing the real possibility of someone siphoning gas out of MoneyKing’s car while he’s asleep or shopping at the mall.
We just cringe when we see those landscaping trucks sitting in parking lots with no housing whatsoever over their fuel caps. Are they nuts??!?!?!
Lockable fuel caps sales have spiked as gas prices have. What we need now is someone to market a biometric cap based off thumb prints. Then, we’ll really be all set for convenience and security.
Good luck out there.

I was just telling my husband yesterday that everyone should have a locking gas cap now. My ‘84 gas-guzzling LTD came with one, and although I complained at first, I’ve been reading where there is a lot of siphoning going on, so I’m happy I have it. What surprises me is that I’ve seen no one else with one at the gas station. I read years ago they also help keep your gas from evaporating as quickly, but I don’t know about that one.
I was just thinking about this today.
How does one go about getting a locking gas cap? Is it a DIY thing or do you have to have a pro do it and ballpark of cost involved if you would be so kind.
This year we have already had our garage broken into, our house sprayed with graffiti twice, our mailbox and post hit twice and the list goes on. I am thinking it is only a matter of time before they hit up the car gas tank. Thanks.
Unfortunately, the current trend seems to be drilling into your gas tank from below your car.
Check out google news for a bunch of articles on the topic.

if the lock actually compresses the cap down more, sure. it’ll stop the evaporation process. depends on the design!
wal-mart, autozone, k-mart
pick a major big box store or a auto parts store and you’ll find ‘em
Just the day I read this, I also read about drilling. If anyone can get past my dog and under my car (it sits very low to the ground), maybe they’re just desperate enough to deserve the gas!
Nah, it doesn’t compress it any more. Oh well, at least they can’t siphon it from the tank.
