What’s Going On With Your Emergency Fund? Save Money. Don’t Touch It!

When certain ideas that “just make sense” come to our minds, The Money Kings feel absolutely obligated to share. Therefore, we give you: Saturday Sense.

For your consideration: What’s Going On With Your Emergency Fund? Save Money. Don’t Touch It!

You’re going to read tons and tons of posts all over the web about saving money for a rainy day. This one, from The Money Kings, is different. Instead of asking you if you have a rainy day fund, or if you need help setting one up, we’re going to skip all that and ask three questions:

  1. When was the last time you needed the money from your emergency fund?
  2. When do you think you’ll need your emergency fund cash?
  3. Are you thinking of spending your emergency money soon?

A Money King gives the following answers:

  1. I haven’t.
  2. Hopefully never.
  3. Hell no.

If you don’t have an emergency fund, that’s NOT fine by us, but again, do a Google search on “how to get your act together” and find out why you need one. This post is for people with the money all ready set aside for a few years.

You see, NO ONE on the web is trying to keep you from spending this money on a new boat or car or expensive vacation, besides your friends at The Money Kings! And oh yes, friends, some of you are thinking of breaking the emergency fund rules right now . . . You know who you are . . . Don’t lie to yourself, or us.

Let’s review the rules. Emergency fund monies are for:

  1. Job Loss
  2. Healthcare Emergencies
  3. Economic Collapse

If none of these situations have occurred, then DON’T touch your money. We know this isn’t the most sexy choice available, but again, DON’T touch your money!

Got a new girlfriend? That’s great. Don’t tap your fund for a new car for her. Got kids bothering you for a PS3, but can’t really afford one? Too bad for them! Got a hankering to start a snowmobiling business out of your backyard? Great, but find your start-up cash somewhere else.

That’s right. This post is simply here to remind you of good old-fashioned common sense. Don’t mess with your stash!

Resist Temptation.
